LEISL BAKER

Leisl Baker is a Toowoomba-based painter who aims to record moments in time as visual snapshots through her landscape and still life works.

A spontaneous, energetic and intuitive painter, Leisl’s approach is physical and deliberate; applying thick layers of oil paint to board, and then working wet on wet to capture the ever-shifting energy, light and atmosphere of a place or scene.

Leisl has been a finalist in several of Australia’s richest landscape awards including the Hadley’s Prize for Landscape, the Paddington Art Prize (multiple), the Waverley Art Award, the Pro Hart Outback Art Award and the Clayton Utz Art Prize. She was also among 50 painters selected to feature in the 2018 Thames & Hudson publication ‘A Painted Landscape’ by Amber Creswell Bell.
